Most of us are going to go through at least one big renovation process in our lives. If not more! Because when you find that forever home of yours, you’re going to realize that it’s perhaps not quite right. Or that you just want to modernize things a little. And that’s okay, but at the same time, you need to be aware of just how much change a renovation can bring to your life. Because it can! Renovating is stressful. I changes your life. AND it can take a long time. And so, you need to make sure that you’re prepared. When you’re building a home office or you’re extending or you’re just redecorating the entire place, it’s important to be able to manage the process and your stress levels. So here’s what to do.
Give Yourself Enough Time
First of all, you need to make sure that you’ve given yourself enough time. Don’t assume the work will be done in a month if it’s going to take two. Ask the right questions and prepare yourself for as long as it takes.
Now, if you are having a lot of work done and you are trying to keep everything you own in the house, it’s going to get crazy. So, first of all declutter. Have a good clear out of things you do not need. And then, with everything else that will be getting into the way, find a storage solution such as 2 Men And A Truck that you can use during the renovation. When the rooms are done, you can get everything back. This is way easier than moving things from room to room and have absolutely NO space to live in at all!
And then, from here, you absolutely need to make sure that you’re planning ahead as much as possible. You don’t want to struggle to eat or find school supplies amidst the mess! So, get some make ahead meals in place and make sure that your freezer and microwave are accessible – move them if you have to. And, keep your daily essentials organized. Everything else can go into storage if need be, but make your everyday life as easy as possible.
Make Other Arrangements
If your entire house is being renovated, or the work takes up main areas of the house, maybe it will be best to find temporary accommodation? If it’s going to be too stressful for you to stay at home, then leaving for a while will help.
Focus On The Future
And then, something that works for many of us, is not to focus too much on what’s going on today, but what the end result will be like. Sure, you may be living in a building site and the home may be a completely chaotic mess, but t won’t be forever. So picture that perfect family home. Choose your decor early. Plan it out. Because when you can focus on that end result and not just today, you’re going to feel better about it all.
