Who doesn’t love to cuddle up with a good book in one hand and a cup of hot cocoa in the other while sitting in front of a roaring fire covered in a fluffy blanket. If that doesn’t sound like the essence of coziness then I don’t know what does! The Hygge lifestyle is an excellent example of how to create a cozy atmosphere in your home to welcome family and friends year-round.
Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. As a cultural category with its sets of associated practices hygge has more or less the same meanings in Danish and Norwegian, but the notion is more central in Denmark than Norway.
The only other thing I can think of that is a great example of cozy is watching a Hallmark Christmas movie while curled up on the couch. Hygge also gives me the same feeling and getting this coziness in your home isn’t as hard as you think.
In creating a cozy environment a fluffy blanket is a must. There’s nothing greater than crawling into bed with a fluffy blanket and beautiful mug filled with hot cocoa while checking out the latest Hallmark movie.
Baskets are another way to add a warm and cozy element to your home. You can either fill the baskets with blankets or even small logs to give them a homey feel.
Soft lights always add a touch of magic with their warm glow and when you can add pictures of loved ones to the lights it adds an element of comfort.
These are just a few ways you can add a bit of “Hygge” to your home. I personally love adding blankets and candles to my bedroom and den. To me it just adds an extra level of relaxation and comfort to my home.
